Wine

Most wine comes from eastern Herzegovina around Trebinje, where the Mediterranean climate, karst soils and long summers suit the indigenous red Vranac and white Žilavka grapes, as well as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The best-known producer is the cellar of the Tvrdoš monastery. Family wineries such as Anđelić in Trebinje and Jungić in Čelinac add smaller volumes.

Beer, brandy and water

Banjalučka pivara, founded by Trappist monks in 1873 and now part of the Finnish Olvi Group, brews the Nektar brand. Fruit brandy, especially plum, is made by industrial distilleries such as Prijedorčanka and by many small producers. Mineral and spring water is bottled in Kozluk near Zvornik and at other springs.
